Google has expanded access to Gemini 4 Argon, its most capable Gemini model. After an initial release limited to a small group of testers, trusted partners, and government work, the model is now available worldwide for developers, enterprises, and eligible paid subscribers.

Free Gemini users do not currently have access to Argon.

Where Gemini 4 Argon Is Available

Developers and businesses can use Gemini 4 Argon through Google’s paid Gemini API tier, AI Studio, and the Gemini platform.

Access is also included in select paid Google AI plans:

  • Google AI Ultra subscribers can use Argon through Antigravity.
  • Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers can use Argon in the Gemini app.
  • Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers can also use Argon in AI Mode in Search.

The rollout gives paid API customers and Google AI subscribers access to a model that was initially available only to a limited group.

Gemini 4 Argon Is Built for More Demanding Work

Google positions Argon for work that can involve extended, complicated tasks rather than quick responses. The company points to several use cases:

  • Coding
  • Finance
  • Legal work
  • Cybersecurity
  • Science
  • Other tasks that may require the model to work through complex requests over time

Google says Argon ranks first on the Vals Index, which evaluates AI performance in areas including finance, coding, legal work, and tax work.

Chrome engineers also used Argon for a refactor involving hundreds of files in Chromium, a codebase with roughly 40 million lines of code.

Google says Argon has also been used to:

  • Optimize the Agent Development Kit
  • Speed up the xTB quantum chemistry package
  • Improve Gemma 4 inference
  • Assist with cybersecurity and scientific research work

Free Gemini Users Still Do Not Have Argon

Although access has expanded for developers, enterprises, and paid subscribers, Gemini 4 Argon is not available in the free Gemini tier.

For individual users, Argon remains a feature for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers.
