Informer Tech is an independent technology publication. We cover artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, VPNs and online privacy, gaming, and hardware. We write for anyone trying to understand a new technology, choose the right product, or decide whether a tool is worth paying for.
This page explains how we work: how we choose what to cover, how we research and check it, how we review and rank products, how we keep commercial relationships out of editorial decisions, and what we do when we get something wrong.

Our mission and values
Our mission is simple: give readers clear, accurate, useful information about technology so they can make better decisions with their time and money. Four values guide everything we publish.
- Accuracy. We check facts before we publish, and we fix mistakes openly when we find them.
- Independence. Our editors decide what we cover and what we recommend. Advertisers, affiliate partners, and the companies we write about don't.
- Transparency. We explain how we test, how we make money, and when content is sponsored.
- Usefulness. We write for people who are trying to get something done, not for press releases.
What we publish
Informer Tech publishes several kinds of content. Each one has a different job, and the same standards apply to all of them.
- News and articles: reporting, explainers, and how-to guides on AI, cloud, cybersecurity, VPNs, and other areas of tech.
- Games: news, guides, and recommendations about video games, gaming platforms, and the hardware people play on.
- Best-of lists: ranked roundups of the products and tools we think are the strongest options for a specific need or budget.
- Alternatives: guides to the tools worth considering when a well-known product doesn't fit your needs, budget, or privacy expectations.
- Deals: discounts and offers on tech products and software we think are worth your attention. Prices and availability change quickly, so always check the final price with the retailer.
- Reviews: in-depth evaluations of a single product or service, with a verdict, pros and cons, and key specifications.
- Discover: a searchable directory of software, apps, and online tools, organized by category, tags, and pricing model, so you can compare options side by side.
Every article carries an author byline that links to the writer's profile, and you can meet the people behind our coverage on the team page.
How we choose topics and products
We decide what to cover based on what readers need to know and what is changing in the industry. In practice, that means:
- developments that affect how people work, play, or stay safe online
- questions and feedback from our readers
- new products, launches, and major updates in the categories we cover
- products and tools that many people use or are considering, along with newer options that deserve a closer look
Companies are welcome to pitch products or offer briefings, but a pitch never guarantees coverage. We don't accept payment to cover a product or to include it in our editorial content.
Research and sourcing
We aim to get things right the first time. Every article we publish is held to these standards:
- Go to the source. We rely on primary sources wherever possible: official documentation, company announcements, security advisories, research papers, and regulatory filings. For reviews, that also means our own hands-on use of the product.
- Attribute clearly. When we use information, quotes, data, or images from someone else, we say where they came from, and we link to the original where we can.
- Credit other reporting. If another publication broke a story or did original work we build on, we credit it. We don't republish other outlets' reporting as our own.
- Check before publishing. We verify names, numbers, prices, specifications, and claims against reliable sources. If something can't be confirmed, we leave it out or clearly say it's unconfirmed.
- Editorial review. A member of our editorial team reviews every article before it's published.
- Separate fact from opinion. Reviews and recommendations include our judgment, and we make clear when we're giving an opinion and what it's based on.
Reviews, rankings, and recommendations
Our reviews and recommendations exist to help you choose, so we try to show our reasoning, not just the result.
- Reviews are based on hands-on use of the product, following the methodology and scoring scale on our How We Test page. We look at performance, design, features, value, user experience, and reliability, and we weight each one according to what matters most for that type of product.
- Best-of lists and alternatives are ranked by how well each option fits the need the list is about. Where we've reviewed a product hands-on, that review informs its place on the list. Other picks are based on research into specifications, official documentation, pricing, and how each option compares with its competitors, so not every product on a list has been tested by us.
- Deals are chosen because we think both the product and the price are worth your attention, not simply because a discount exists.
- Discover entries describe what a tool does, its key features, category, tags, and pricing model, with a link to its website. A Discover listing is a directory entry to help you compare options. It isn't a review or an endorsement.
We point out weaknesses as well as strengths, including for products we may earn a commission on. When a better or cheaper option exists, we say so. Products we review may be bought by us or provided by the company that makes them. Either way, they come with no strings attached, and no company reviews or approves our coverage before it's published.
Editorial independence
Informer Tech is free to read. We fund our work through display advertising, sponsored content, and affiliate links. Here's how we keep that revenue separate from editorial decisions.
- Separate teams. Our editorial team works independently from the people who handle advertising and partnerships. Advertisers and partners have no say over what we cover or what we conclude.
- Affiliate links. Some pages contain affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Reviews, best-of lists, alternatives, deals, and Discover pages show a notice when this applies. Commissions never decide which products we recommend or how we rate them. Our Affiliate Disclosure explains this in detail.
- Discover listings. The website links in Discover may be affiliate links, and every listing displays the same notice.
- Advertising. Display ads come from third-party networks and are kept separate from our editorial content.
- Sponsored content. We occasionally publish content paid for by a partner. It's always labeled "Sponsored," "Advertisement," or "Promoted Content," and it's held to our editorial standards.
- No paid reviews or placement. We don't accept payment for reviews, ratings, rankings, or product placement in our editorial content.
- Guest contributions. We occasionally publish contributions from outside experts. They go through the same editorial review as the rest of our coverage.
Corrections and updates
We work hard to be accurate, but we do sometimes make mistakes. When we do, we fix them.
Reporting an error. If you spot something wrong, email [email protected] or use our contact form. Please include the link to the article and a short description of the problem. A source helps us check it faster.
How we handle corrections. We review every report we receive. If we confirm an error, we correct the article promptly and note the change in it, so readers can see what was fixed.
Keeping content current. Technology changes quickly, so we revisit articles, recommendations, and lists as products, prices, and features change. When an update meaningfully changes our advice, we say so in the article.
