Apple is preparing to increase prices across the iPhone 17 lineup as early as Monday, August 10, according to Chinese leaker Fixed Focus Digital. This would mark the first global price adjustment for the current iPhone generation since its launch last September. The claim appeared on Weibo on Friday and indicates that every market could see changes this time. The move follows Japan’s 8–11% increases across iPhone models in July. Apple has not commented on the report.

Memory Chip Shortage Driving Higher Component Costs

The potential price change is tied to a deepening shortage of memory chips that has affected the tech industry throughout 2026. AI data centers are consuming roughly 70% of all memory chips produced this year, according to Northeastern University research cited by gagadget.com. This demand has pushed DRAM and NAND flash prices sharply higher.

In June, Apple CEO Tim Cook told the Wall Street Journal that the company had never seen component prices increase this much, this quickly. On June 25, Apple raised prices on Macs, iPads, and Vision Pro and indicated that iPhones and Apple Watch would be next. Microsoft, Dell, Sony, and Samsung have already raised device prices in 2026 for the same reason. Until now, Apple had kept iPhone pricing flat globally. That approach helped the company capture a record 20% share of the global smartphone market in the second quarter, according to Omdia.

What the Price Changes Could Look Like

The exact percentage increase for most markets has not been confirmed. Japan’s 8–11% range provides the closest real-world reference. On the iPhone 17 Pro, which starts at $1,099 in the US, an 8% rise would add roughly $96. In India, dealers were reportedly informed that the base iPhone 17 could move from ₹82,990 to ₹94,990, an increase of about ₹12,000.

Fixed Focus Digital also reported that Apple has scaled back planned production increases of 15–30% for its current supply chain. DRAM constraints threaten to limit early availability of the iPhone 18 Pro, which is expected to launch in September.

Timing and Reliability of the Report

The August 10 date comes from a single leaker source. AppleInsider noted that Weibo leakers often have a mixed track record for reliability. Fixed Focus Digital has accurately predicted Apple details in the past, including the name of the iPhone 16e. If the price increase takes effect, the current weekend may be the final window for buyers to secure existing iPhone 17 pricing.
