AMD’s next Ryzen AI 500 “Medusa Point” APUs are taking another clear step toward launch. Fresh firmware for the chips’ integrated graphics has shown up in the Linux ecosystem. As first noted by Phoronix, AMD published the files needed for its upcoming RDNA 4m graphics, pointing to Zen 6-based mobile processors that sit closer to real hardware than roadmap status.

RDNA 4m Sits Between Existing Architectures

The firmware targets AMD’s GFX 11.7 graphics IP, labeled RDNA 4m. It occupies an unusual spot. Desktop RDNA 4 GPUs use the newer GFX 12 family. RDNA 4m stays inside the GFX 11 branch, positioned between the current RDNA 3.5 design and full RDNA 4.

The “m” is widely taken to mean mobile. The design appears built specifically for APUs. Earlier Linux and LLVM work already showed it carries some RDNA 4-style features, including FP8/BF8 conversion and WMMA instructions. Those additions can give Medusa Point newer AI and graphics capabilities without a complete graphics architecture change.

Firmware Covers Core Software Pieces

The new files support GFX 11.7.0 and 11.7.1. They also include security, display, and memory-management components. That mix suggests AMD is lining up much of the software stack for the incoming chips.

Earlier Geekbench results for a 10-core Zen 6 Medusa Point APU already showed promising gains over current Ryzen mobile parts. AMD has confirmed the Medusa codename for its next-generation Zen 6 client platform. Exact specifications and launch timing remain unannounced.

What RDNA 4m Could Deliver in Laptops

The open question is how much AMD can extract from this hybrid design. It is not a full RDNA 4 GPU. The added instruction support could still give the integrated graphics a useful feature lift while the APU stays relatively efficient.

Firmware arriving ahead of any official announcement is another sign that Medusa Point is shifting from planning to actual silicon. Pairing Zen 6 CPU gains with a stronger iGPU and modern AI features could produce some compelling laptop options.
