YouTube is changing its Home page to give viewers more control over the recommendations they see and quicker access to frequently used sections. The update introduces saved Custom Feeds for eligible users and includes tests of a redesigned mobile Home navigation bar that brings Subscriptions closer to the main feed.
Custom Feeds began as an experiment earlier this year. They are now moving toward a more regular role on the YouTube Home page, replacing existing topic chips for eligible viewers.
Create Personalized YouTube Home Feeds
A Custom Feed lets you describe what you want to watch and receive a separate stream of recommendations based on that request. To create one, tap the plus button at the top of the YouTube Home page and enter a description of the videos you want.
Your request can focus on:
- A particular topic
- A type of content
- A mood or vibe
YouTube continues updating the resulting feed as new videos become available. Rather than relying only on standard Home recommendations, viewers can keep distinct feeds built around the kinds of videos they want to find.
How Many YouTube Custom Feeds Can You Save?
Regular YouTube accounts can save up to three Custom Feeds at one time. YouTube Premium subscribers can save up to eight.
Saved feeds remain available from the top of the Home page. You can edit or remove them whenever you want.
Who Can Use YouTube Custom Feeds?
Custom Feeds are rolling out to signed-in viewers who meet the following conditions:
- They are age 13 or older.
- They are located in the United States.
- Their YouTube language setting is English.
- Their watch history is turned on.
- Their search history is turned on.
The feature works on both mobile and desktop.
YouTube Tests a New Mobile Home Navigation Bar
YouTube is also testing a simplified top bar within the mobile Home tab. The revised navigation places Subscriptions in the top bar, giving viewers quicker access from the Home experience.
The mobile navigation also includes standard feeds for Live and Music. Viewers with active subscriptions will also see a Movies & TV option.
This test runs alongside the Custom Feeds rollout, changing both the recommendations available on the Home page and the way viewers move between major YouTube sections.
