Google’s Pause Point feature has appeared on a OnePlus 13R running the ColorOS 17 beta, suggesting that the Android 17 Digital Wellbeing tool may be moving beyond Google’s Pixel phones.
Android Authority confirmed that Pause Point is working on the OnePlus device. Google’s support documentation still mainly identifies the Pixel 11 series, but the OnePlus appearance offers a clearer sign that availability could expand.
How Pause Point Works on Android
Pause Point is designed to slow down the habit of opening distracting apps without thinking. Rather than showing screen-time information after time has already been spent in an app, it places a 10-second delay before the app opens.
During that brief pause, Android can present options such as:
- A breathing exercise
- A timer
- A photo slideshow
- A suggestion to do something else
The feature can be used before opening apps such as Instagram, TikTok, or other distracting apps. The delay is intended to create a small break between the impulse to open an app and the app itself.
Google has also made Pause Point difficult to disable completely. Turning it off requires restarting the phone.
A Different Approach to Digital Wellbeing
Many screen-time tools focus on showing how much time has already been spent in an app. Pause Point takes a different approach by intervening before the app opens.
That distinction matters. A 10-second wait is short, but it may give someone time to notice whether they opened an app intentionally or simply out of habit. Instead of responding after extended scrolling has happened, Pause Point aims to interrupt the reflex at the start.
Pause Point Availability Beyond Pixel Phones
Google initially limited Pause Point to the Pixel 11 series, according to its support page. However, its messaging around broader availability was not entirely consistent.
An official Android video described Pause Point as being available on “select Android 17 devices.” That wording left open the possibility that the feature would arrive on phones outside Google’s Pixel lineup.
Older Pixel phones have also begun receiving Pause Point through Android 17 QPR1. Now, with the feature appearing on a OnePlus 13R using the ColorOS 17 beta, the rollout appears to be moving further beyond the original Pixel-only availability.
What the OnePlus 13R Appearance Suggests
The OnePlus 13R sighting does not change Google’s primary support documentation, which still points largely to the Pixel 11 series. But it does show that Pause Point can run on a non-Pixel Android device.
For people interested in the feature but not planning to use Google’s newest Pixel phone, that is an encouraging development. The OnePlus 13R running ColorOS 17 beta is the clearest indication so far that Pause Point may be available on more Android 17 devices.
