If you're still grinding out Warzone matches on a PS4 or Xbox One, here's the news you probably didn't want: your time with the game on that hardware is almost up. Activision has confirmed that Warzone support on both last-gen consoles will wind down in stages this year before disappearing entirely. And it follows hot on the heels of another gut punch for these players, since the next Call of Duty, now confirmed as Modern Warfare 4, isn't coming to PS4 or Xbox One at all.
How the Warzone Last-Gen Shutdown Will Roll Out
The wind-down isn't happening overnight. It's a phased exit, and the first domino falls on June 4. That's when Warzone gets pulled from the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One digital storefronts. After that date, you won't be able to download the game fresh on either console anymore.
If Warzone is already sitting in your library, though, you've got some breathing room. You'll still be able to install and play it for a while. Activision says the game stays playable on PS4 and Xbox One right through the end of Season 06 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
The next change lands on June 25. That's when the Warzone in-game store gets removed from both last-gen versions. You can still redeem COD Points in the store up until then, and your gameplay will keep counting toward Battle Pass progression. Even if you don't own the paid Battle Pass, you can still unlock free-tier rewards, including new weapons, across the remaining Black Ops 7 seasons.
The real cutoff arrives with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1. Once that season kicks off, Warzone simply won't be playable on PS4 or Xbox One anymore. That's the end of the line.

Why the Timing Stings for PlayStation Holdouts
For PlayStation players especially, the timing is a little awkward. Sony's Days of Play 2026 sale is live right now, but the PS5 console itself doesn't appear to be getting a discount. So if you were hoping to upgrade on the cheap, that particular door seems closed.
There's an upside, at least. Players who do make the jump can still grab discounted PS5 games, accessories, and PlayStation Plus memberships while the sale runs through June 10. Not a console deal, but not nothing either.
What Happens to Your Progress and COD Points
Here's the good part for anyone worried about losing everything they've earned. Activision says you won't lose your Warzone progress if you move to a PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC, as long as you're using the same linked Activision account. Items you bought with COD Points carry over too.
There's one catch worth knowing. Any unused COD Points stay tied to the same console family. So PS4 players can spend them on PS5, and Xbox One players can use them on Xbox Series X|S, but they won't cross over between brands.
Warzone gave last-gen players a long runway after the current-gen consoles showed up. That runway is now nearly gone. Anyone who wants to keep dropping into Call of Duty's battle royale after this season ends will need to move to newer hardware soon.
